Individual Note: Harriet Charlotte Collinson was the widow of Thomas Dalton. Unfortunately he died before the earliest online Census, 1861 so until the 1851 is avaialble for easy searching, his origin is a mystery. The only lead at present (May 2005) is that a Thomas Dalton was a clergyman in Whitehaven and Harriet's sister married into a family with nearby landholding in Nether Wasdale.
Facts:
1) In Jul-Sep 1844 he married Harriet Charlotte Collinson b. 31 Jan 1815 Gateshead, dau. of Rev. John Collinson and Amelia Eagles (GRO Civil Index for England & Wales):
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

This would most possibly be in Boldon where her father was Rector.
2) He was a clergyman (1871 Census shows his wife as "Clergyman's widow"). His wife's father was Church of England so probably he was too.
3) He died before April 1861 (1871 Census shows his wife as "widow")
Possibility, could this be him:

Holy Trinity Church, situate at the junction of Scotch street, Irish street, and Roper street, was built in 1715, by James Lowther, Esq., and others of the inhabitants. Its style is very similar to that of St. Nicholas. Over the altar table, which is placed in a semicircular recess, is a painting of the Ascension, by Matthias Reid; and near the tower is a marble monument with a Latin inscription, to the memory of Sir James Lowther, who died in 1755; and here are several other handsome mural monuments and tablets. The benefice is a perpetual curacy, certified at £60; and in 1835, was of the average value of £250, but it is now worth £300 per annum, having been augmented by William, earl of Lonsdale, and £400 obtained from queen Anne's bounty. The gift of the living is alternately in the earl and seat-holders. The Revd. Thomas Dalton, M.A. is the present incumbent, and Mr. James Moore is clerk.

Walter de Winton is now head of the household at Maesllwch. According to the de Winton family tree, Walter de Winton was born in 1832. This would make him 29 in 1861, yet here his age is put at 27 (the age his sister Emily Gwenllian would be). Presumably there was an error in transcription when the information was copied from the enumerator’s forms onto the final census form. Walter’s absence from the previous censuses is probably explained by his being away at school (the same would apply to Francis in 1851). The family tree also gives him the title ‘Captain’.
The household now has 9 servants, including 2 valets, both presumably looking after Mr de Winton. It is interesting to note how few of the servants were born locally. It rather undermines assumptions that, in the days when people tended to work close to home, most would have been recruited from the surrounding villages. Probably, some servants would be taken on from other areas where the family had property, but this does not account for such a range of birthplaces - 5 different counties.

There is now a new family at the Lodge. Possibly William Goode died - he would have been too young to retire. The family may have moved away. Some members are still in Glasbury: Eliza Goode(2) is living on her own, and is a straw bonnet maker. Samuel Goode(1) is lodging in a house with 4 other young men and they are all grooms. The head groom lives next door. Thomas Goode (5) is a cowman at Maesyronen.

Charles Rawson has married again and set up home in Glasbury. His wife’s maiden name was presumably Leeds since his sister in law is called that. It is possible that their father was in the Navy, as Emily was born in Southampton and Elinor in Brussels, where he could have been a Naval Attache at the Embassy.

Individual Note: Henry King Collinson appears to have been a Church of England priest like his father, and spent his life in Co. Durham and later Northumberland. Records and birth place of children suggest he became a perpetual curate at Castle Eden in 1830. In 1838 he took the Stockton-on-Tees Holy Trinity perpetual curacy. In 1845 he seems to have been made vicar of Stannington and he certainly can be found as such in the 1851 and 1861 censi. He died in 1867 in, according to Pauline Adams (Genes Reunited tree), Stannington, Northumberland.

The second [Collinson - Baker] link was the marriage of Sophia Baker to the Revd Henry King Collinson. Sophia b 1797 was the granddaughter of Captain Benjamin Baker by his first marriage to a Miss Tathwell - one son Benjamin (1765-1818) who married Sophia Tathwell in 1793, presumably a cousin [KB]

This list is taken from the annual list of members from 1821, supplemented by the new members lists published in the Society’s Annual Reports. The date refers to the date of the annual report in which the member is listed, thus 1795 infers that the person joined in 1794. Every occurrence of a member’s name has not been listed. A name has been listed more than once if there is a variation in the form of name, e.g. Robert and Robert A., or if there is a gap of more than 5 years since its last listing. No further information on members listed up to 1895 is available from the Lit & Phil. The rolls from 1895 may be consulted at the discretion of the Committee.
