Hi Michael, I'm interested in anyone named Swindley because of my ancestry - George Swindley was born in Waverton Oct 27 1821 and was my ancesters cousin. I would be interested in how you fit into the family. Cheers Joe
Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for all that good stuff.
I saw that entry for 1901 and didn't connect JR with Mary. The ages don't add up at first. So He must have made his trip to Canada at a later date. Thanks again
The same thing happened in my Swindley line with my Grandmother's sister Jane Swindley skipping town on her husband, ending up in Boston to marry an unsuspecting male. She had 12 kids by the second marriage and lived to 92 - never telling anyone.
Cheers
Joe

Note for: Eleanor Forster, ABT 1853 -
Index
Residence: Date: 1861
Place: North Deptford Road, Bishopwearmouth, Co. Durham, UK
Individual Note: In the 1891 England Census, an Eleanor appears b c1853 Sunderland and as the second wife of William Render. Piecing together her background requires a little detective work and so must be conjectural. From the evidence below it would appear that she is Eleanor Forster and married Robert Snowball and lodged with him at William Render's house. Robert appears to have died (no record found yet), she had a daughter Florence with William (or he adopted it) and she married him in early 1891.
It is not possible to say with certainty who her parents are without ordering either of her marriage certificates, but the closest match in the 1861 Census suggests that they were Thomas and Jane Forster of Bishopwearmouth. Bishopwearmouth is now a suburb of Sunderland so might have been used interchangeably.

"Just for your information I know a little bit of history which you may not know, which may interest you.
Eleanor Forster had three children. Ernest (by Robert Snowball), Florence and William by William Render. I rekon Florence was illegitimate and that may have something to do with the reason that William and Eleanor were married in South Shields.(17th Feb 1891) have a copy of the marriage certificate if you are interested. She was married as Eleanor Forster spinster - no mention of her previous marriage. Can't find any connection to South Shields though.
William (Sr.) worked as a drayman at Vaux breweries. He was out one day and he fell from the dray , it went over him and he was killed.(Mar 1909 ?) I am going to see if this was reported in the Sunderland Echo and get a copy of the article, if it was. After his death, Eleanor married for a third time at Sunderland to James Gray.(1911)
William (Jr.) also worked at Vaux Brewery and that was where he met Norah Casey (his wife)

Individual Note: Hi Jeanette,
I got your email this time, it was being sent to the wrong address. Yes, some photos would be wonderful, and my guess is that if they exist they would be with Graham / Archbold relatives, so I have motive to find out about them The Collinson family scattered to the winds - though I'm still holding faint hopes of finding some Collinson descendents of Joseph. My great grandfather (a son of Joseph) died in a mining accident in South Africa - though I believe his wife Susanna died in 1929 probably in Wallsend.
Based on your 1861 Census entry, I think what I came up with for Margaret Graham's parents must be plain wrong - it was based on the christening. As not only Margaret, but George and William are missing from the Gateshead parish register, they must have been christened at another church or parish. I tried to find the corresponding 1871 Census entry for your 1861 below and think I found it and the death of Jessie Graham. There's also another Graham family living 3 doors away, they might be related so I saved the census image and can email it to you.
Mike

Hello Mike
Thank you for all the information you sent. It was certainly very detailed. You have done a lot of work. I was looking at your information on Margaret Graham. I haven't got a birth certificate for her but I'm not sure that the Margaret born on 28th of May 1848 is the correct one, although it is just still possible. Margaret's father was Robert Graham, a master baker. But her mother was Jessie Buglass not a Janet. Is it possible that the name has been incorrectly transcibed? If it is definitely Janet, then I think it must be the wrong certificate. On all the early censuses Margaret does not have an Ann so I think that is something she tacked on around the time that she met William Archbold.
Here is the 1861 census entry
14? William Street, Gateshead. (next number is 15 William Street)
Robert Graham Head mar 40 baker born Gateshead (actually Newcastle)
Jessie Wife mar 36 born Berwick upon Tweed (not sure about that)
Robert son s 19 forgeman journeyman born Gateshead (actually Sunderland) <-- born c1841 - 42
Margaret dau s 13 scholar born Gateshead <-- born c1847 - 48
Thomas son s 11 scholar born Gateshead <-- born c1849 - 50
George son s 5 scholar born Gateshead <-- born c1854 - 56
It would be wonderful if someone had photos of Joseph Collinson and Margaret - it is very possible seeing as they lived to a fair age. Maybe someone back in Newcastle might have some. I guess it is a matter of finding more descendants.
I might order the LDS film for Margaret's baptism and see if it could possibly be the correct one before ordering. I'll also check the GRO indexes to see if there are any other likelies.
I am still looking for more Archbold connections. I haven't had much luck with the American ones. Both Emily and Jane were childless. There were quite a few of the family left in Newcastle - I know Gibson lived there around 1910 - 1920 as Robert Graham (one of the first cousins) remembers being pals with his children.
That's all for now. Please keep in touch.
Jeanette
