"In affectionate remembrance of William McVitie who died at Hazelfield Cottage, 2th April 1911, aged 63 years.
Also Jane Thomson, wife of the above William McVitie, who died at Cottage Hospital, Castle Douglas, 15th March 1918, aged 53 years." [--> born about 1864-65]
"Also Malcolm, their youngest son, killed in action in Cambrai, France, 21st March 1918, aged 21 years.
Also Elizabeth, their daughter, who died at Hazelfield Cottage, 11th Feb'y 1977, aged 85 years."
The researcher also notes: 'This last Elizabeth McVitie had an illegitimate son, Ernest McVitie, who used to live in the house I am now in. He is retired (over 20 years) Police Inspector and lives about 100 yards away, Something in the back of my mind tells me she also had a daughter, and this daughter still lives at Hazelfield Cottage. I'll try to find out if you wish.'
