There is indeed a William McMurray of the right age from Scotland, but wife and children do not match at all. Note though that the wife's age matches perfectly

Hi Mike:
Arnie passed this e-mail on to me. I am descended from Wm. Henry McMurray and Charlotte Stoneman. Wm. Henry is definitely a son of John McMurray and Isabella Shaw. Wm. Henry and Charlotte had a few children as only three survived to adulthood. They were Sarah Jane (my grandmother) who married Joseph Railton Wolstencroft and they had 5 children. 3 girls and 2 boys. unfortunately the boys passed away as very young children. James McMurray, son of Wm. Henry and Charlotte , was married twice with one son from first marriage and 2 daughters and 1 son from second marriage. the other child that survived of Wm. henry and Charlotte was Wm. Marshall who travelled to Michigan and married and had one son , Wm. Marshall died at a young age. I am in contact with Wm. Marshall's grandson who still lives in Michigan.
Please contact me and I can send what information I have that may be of interest to you.

Note for: Jane Alexander, 19 MAR 1842 - Index
Individual Note:
Given her date of birth and surname "Alexander", this woman was a possible match for Jane, born c1841 Scotland, married to Richard Cumming in the 1881 England Census - one of the sons was named "John Alexander". Unfortunately later research uncovered the 1871 Census which indicates this Jane married a "Sutherland". However, both mother and daughter Jane Sutherland do not appear in the 1881 Census. Could she have re-married? And if so, to Richard Cumming? Names and DOB of Cumming children give some very circumstantial weight to this theory. May be just fanciful though
NO ... Not related. Jane later turns out to be Jane Lauder.
