I suspect, but cannot prove, that she married a William Hastie first and had several children by him (the last c1764) and then remarried to John McVitty in 1768. A date of death for WIlliam Hastie would strenghten the case either way.

Birth:
Christening: 08 MAY 1735 Graitney, Dumfries, Scotland
Father: JOHN CARRUTHERS
Helen CARRUTHERS (AFN: 20G9-PPP)
Birth: Abt 1738 Of Kirkmichael, Dumfries, Scotland
Spouse: William HASTIE (AFN: 20G9-PNH)
Marriage: Abt 1757 Of Kirkmichael, Dumfries, Scotland
Hmmm, could the above marriage record be a mistake or she makes a second marriage ?? The DOB of the two children identified do seem very late in her life. Graitney does not seem to exist. Kirkmichael Parish is just north of Torthorwald and Tinwald, there's not much on the modern map - it is along the modern A701 Dumfries to Moffat road; on an 1861 map, "Kirkmichael Mains" is just north of the existing hamlet of Ae Bridgend.

James Bell writes: " Note: this inscription is taken from the Manpower Services Commission's survey carried out about 20 years ago. Many stones marked illegible when, with a little time spent examining, it is very possible to obtain more info. It's certainly woth another look.
There are 1 or 2 other McMurray graves in Anwoth, but not connected (yet)."

Mike,
If I gave this to you already, forgive me, I'm loosing track of who I sent what too. This info was taken from Dunrod Cemetery headstones by Mary Cousins.
Unfortunately the garveyard is on now military land, a shooting range, so she has to get permission to go there during a "recess". However, it provides excellent info and verifies dob and dod.
