I have been looking at your Collinson genealogy site which has an amazing amount of information, and for which I am extremely grateful. I contacted Joe Collinson as he appeared to have provided most of the information because there is an error in my line. I asked him if it was possible to have the information corrected, however had no response. Is it possible to get the right information included through you? My line is from Thomas Collinson/Maria Workman - John Collinson/Elizabeth Lowes - Thomas Collinson/Mary Ann Welsh (not Hayes).. I can give you more information to back this up if you would like.

Thanks so much for replying. I haven't heard from Joe Collinson since May this year when he replied to my initial e-mail.

Here is more background on the incorrect marriage of Thomas Collinson to Mary Hayes. It took me a long time to track down his Mary and it is definitely not Hayes. A Thomas Collinson married a Mary Hayes in Gateshead but they are much younger, 37 and 38 in the 1901 census and both from Morpeth, Bedlington. You can also find Mary Hayes in 1871 and 1881 census.

I have the marriage licence for my Thomas Collinson who married a Mary Ann Welsh, born Trimdon Grange in 1859, father William Henry Welsh, colliery mason, mother Elizabeth Hindmarch. Thomas and Mary were married in Newcastle on December 3, 1882, and Thomas' father is John Collinson, deceased, coal miner. I thought he was a lead miner but that is a minor difference.

Witnesses at the wedding were John F Taylor and Mary Ellen Taylor. John Ferguson Taylor was Mary Ann's uncle, married to Jane Hindmarch, sister to her mother Elizabeth Hindmarch. In the 1901 census Thomas and Elizabeth have with them a neice Ellen Innes who is the daughter of Mary Ann's half-sister Sarah Ellen Welsh who married a John Inness.

My grandmother Elizabeth Collinson born 1883, died 1975, married Fred Wilkinson Sterling 1909 in Newcastle and they had three children, Harold born 1910 died 2007, Marian Beatrice (my mother) born 1912, died 2010, and Douglas born 1914, died 1982. Harold Sterling married Norah Hann in 1940 and had two daughters, one living, one deceased. Marian married Ian Neill in 1944 and had a son and a daughter, both married and living, each with 2 children. and recently a grandchild each. Douglas married twice with a total of 3 children, the two I am in contact with married and each with children and grandchildren. Of all the cousins I am the only one really delving into family history so am not comfortable identifying them by name on a public site even if listed as just 'living'.

Thomas and Mary Ann Collinson also had a son John William born 1885 who married Barbara Hedley Taylor in 1907. They had two girls, Elsie born 1908 and Doris born 1910. Elsie married Cecil McGivern in 1933 (he achieved some fame at the BBC) and Doris married George Clare in 1937. There are children from both marriages but I'm still tracking them down.

I have had contact with the Lynn Collinson you mention and we have shared information. One brother still eludes us - the John Collinson born 1859 and last found in the 1881 census age 22 with his mother Elizabeth in Gateshead. If you ever get information on where he disappeared to, I'd love to know.

Again, thanks for a great Collinson site - it is a huge clan and quite fascinating. I live in Canada but visit England regularly and next time hope to get to the Weardale museum which is usually closed whenever I'm there.
