1881 Census age suggest the forst enty is correct. But in 1901, a "Robert D.D. Cummings" is living with his sister Florence so the second entry seems more likely ... but he is listed as a boarder not brother in law so perhaps we have another relative???

Hi Michael,
I'm working on my family tree & have just started my wife's side of the tree, she is a Spedding from Stockton with relations in Whitby also.I will be adding more names soon but was wondering if I could check your tree. I have listed Arthur's children but the dates of birth etc are not accurate except for Ron & Wilf (twins), Ron was my father in law......
Regards.....Jeff Taylor

Note for:   Alexander Mc L. Cummings,   ABT 1861 - AFT MAR 1871         Index

Individual Note:
"Alexander Mc.L. Cummings" appears just once in the 1871 Census as the son of James and Mary J Cummings, age 10 - which would mean he was born sometime April 1860 to Mar 1861. He does not though appear in the 1861 Census (where his father is shown as unmarried and living with parents).

Even assuming a transcription error, there is as yet no FreeBMD record of his birth 1860 - 1871.

While his family appears in the 1881 Census he does not. There is evidence of him living elsewhere in England or Wales. He does not appear in the 1880 US or 1881 Canada Census (I wondered if he had emigrated and then his family follow later) and there is as yet no FreeBMD death record for him.

Curious.

Note for:   Jenny Jones Belton,   ABT 1840 - AFT 1901         Index

Occupation:
     Date:   1891
     Place:   Womans' Companion

Individual Note:
Jenny (Jones?) Belton first appears in the 1861 England Census in Edmonton, now a suburb of London. No trace of her birth yet found on LDS parish registers or FreeBMD Civil Index of Births. She is shown as an unmarried "sister". Normally this would be to the Head of household. In this instance there is no head but an "Occupier", James Willats. It is difficult to see how they could be related. Another possibiltiy is that she is sister of Thomas Belton, in the same house.

A further possibility is that she is sister of married Nancy Martin. Nancy is wife of Aaron Martin. In 1871 Jenny is living in their household in Liverpool.

She appears to have made a living as a lady's companion, settling in Lancashire.

HI Michael, I am interested in Caroline White and James Belton. They match your dates and birthplaces and would be my great great grandparents. Individual Note:
Martin Belton was born in Hackney or Hackney Road April - June 1846 and died in Bradfield, Berkshire in 1900.

In 1851 he was living with his family at the Prince Albert, presumably a pub or inn in Hornsey and in 1861 was living with his family in Stepney.

In 1874 he married Mary Dyball, a servant. The 1891 Census shows them in Bradfield, Berkshire married with a daughter Mary Katherine Belton born in Dover in 1875. The Dover birth and the fact that he is a Drill Instructor in 1891 suggests he may have been in the Army. He is totally absent from the 1871 Census and he and his family similarly absent from the 1881 England Census. Was he posted outside England?
