[I've done no research to confirm this is the same Matthew Grierson, but he correspondant believes it is. - MJC]
HI Michael,
I've just been finding info on a Matthew Grierson who married a Janet Rae Halliday in Lochmaben on 16/12/1859.
I'm trying to find more info on her father a James Halliday who would have been born about 1811.
When Janet and Matthew married he was listed as being 22 yrs old and a Mason.
Matthew's father was Thomas Grierson and his wife Isabella Wright or wight or Right really hard to read.
I have a little more info, from what I have just gotten off scotland people and also census records up to 1851.
Is this your Matthew Grierson and do you have any more info - particularly on his father in law James Halliday?
kind regards Anne-Louise Halliday ( under Reynolds on the genes site)
Hi Michael,
thanks for replying.
Your family and my halliday's would have known each other all those years ago
You can definately add to your genes tree the following info:
Matthew Grierson ( sister of your Bridget) married 16/12/1859 in Lochmaben after Banns being read.
Matthew was 22yrs old and a Mason ( father clearly listed as Thomas Grierson and mother Isabella Wright.
Matthew married Jannet Rae Halliday born 14/3/1841 and CH 21/3/1841 in Hightae Village, Lochmaben.
She had a step brother Robert Johnston.
Jannet's parents James Halliday fairly sure born 1811 and mother Mary Underwood. They married 24/11/1839 and Banns were read in both Lochmaben and Dalton.
names on your tree are all intermingled in Halliday's from this area of DFS.
I am positive I have contact with someone who has Tweedie's on their tree connceted to Halliday's , again from Lochmaben. Not sure I will have time in the next week or so but will try and pull out this info I know I have, and see if it may fit in with your lot - of course they won't be close connections to your family.
will be in touch again.
Anne-Louise (Australia)

Individual Note: Mary A(nderson?) Cumings appears in the 1871 England Census as grand-daugher of Richard Cummings, born Jarrow, Co. Durham. There is no indication of who her father is. It could be Richard the younger but why was just she there. I am assuming first that there is another male son of Richrd the elder and that is James and she is her daughter. However she never appears with that family in any census. The last possibility is that she is the illegitmate daughter of Jane Cumings. Unfortunately there is no clear reference to her in the 1881 England Census.
I assume that she is Mary Anderson Cummings as Mary Anderson is the name of her grandmother.
