Hello – As a TESTER, I send a message to all new names on the site. I am trying to break my brick wall of Richard TESTER b c1729/31 in the Balcombe and East Grinstead areas. Please pay a visit to my home page at http://www.rex.tester.btinternet.co.uk where I have my own family plus others that may interest you. I would appreciate any information you may have on TESTERs. I apologise if I have sent this before Regards - Rex

My great grandmother was Edith Emily Norman.
Her birth certificate shows she was born 1866 to George Norman, stationmaster at Seaford Station, Sussex, and Emily Ann Norman, formerly Bodfiel
The 1881 census has her as living at 34 College Rd., Hackney with her mother, Emily A. Norman Widow, born Dorking Surrey 44 years earlier and her 2 younger sisters.
So clealry my GN died pre 1881. I do have his birth certificate, which shows he was born 1842 to Richard Norman, bricklayer and Mary Norman formerly Hall, of East Grinstead. Edith Emily Norman is listed in the IGI.
David
---------------------------
Thanks very much. Nothing here i didn't know from the 1881 census, except GN's d.o.d. and GRO reference.
My problem is that Edith married Edward Andrews and they had 2 children, although i can only find the eldest (my gfather) in the St Catherine index. They had a daughter who i remember when i was young, but can't find her birth record anywhere. Born after 1901, probably as late as 1911. Her name was Dolly (Doris ?)Andrews, maybe Norman as a middle name, like her brother Gilbert. She died in 1978 in a nursing home in Littlehampton, Sussex, but i cannot find a ref to her death certificate in the St C's.
so don't know roughly how old she was and thus her rough d.o.b.
Anyway, scoured the Index for her, in London but no joy. Just have to wait till the 1911 census is out and hope she was born before then
Good luck in you searches.
David

David Andrews (grandson) notes:
1914 Marriage certificate descibes him as an Insurance official living at 26 Callour St. Only 23 y.o. -3 years younger than wife. WWI medals list shows he was a Sapper in the R.E. Received the Victory and the British medals. Birth cerificate of son shows him as an Insurance Clerk ex army living at 27 Whittingstall Road, Fulham.
Went to Buenos Aires with BOLSA about 1940. Wife died there in late 1940's.
Came back early 50's. Lived with his sister, "Dolly" in Felpham, near Bognor Regis and I can remember sending xmas cards there every year from 1956. I liked them both - visited quite often and even stayed there for 2 weeks sometime in the late 1950's- Didn't see much of Gilbert as he seemed to spend much of his time in the local 1969 he died of acute and chronic bronchitis (and emphysema) plus chronic anaemia. Heavy smoker - rolled his own. Described as a Business Manager (retired) on his death certificate. Think he worked for the Commercial Union Insurance Co.
