Note for:   Laura Belton,   BET JAN AND MAR 1868 - 1919         Index

Occupation:
Place:   No occupation on Wedding Cert. or 1901 Census

Individual Note:
     My great grandmother - MJC

Hanged herself and found by daughter Florence. According to Florence, the marriage was rocky with her father having "other friends".
[MJC - I've also wondered where my genetic coeliac disease came from, she might be a candidate - the condition was not recognised then and if untreated, severe depression and general sickness can result.]
"Irish". Florence also said Laura's father was also a wine merchant (?) and that is how she met her husband.

Listed in 1881 Census as 13 years old, (so born 1867-68), dau of Seares [sic] Belton and born in Edmonton, Middlesex.

Listed in 1891 Census as 23 years old, single, dau of Thomas Belton, residing at 1, Tintern Street, Lambeth and born in Edmonton, Middlesex.

Listed on wedding cert as 26 years old and residing in (Tintern Villas) , Tintern Street which is presumably in Brixton.

Listed in the 1901 census as 32 years old (so born 1868-69), married to William Stutchbury and born in Edmonton, Middlesex.

If she was born at the end of March this would explain discrepancy between 1881 and 1901 Census age.

Note for:   Mary Treacher,   21 SEP 1824 - BET APR AND JUN 1885         Index

Individual Note:
Mary Treacher married Thomas Stutchbury in 1849 and is the mother of William Treacher Stutchbury among others.

She appears in 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 Census, as Mary Stutchbury, born "London, Middlesex" (1871, 1881) and "St Botolph Aldersgate, Middlesex" (1861), living with husband. Her given age is consistent means she was born April 1824 - Mar 1825.

She appears to have died Apr-June 1885 in the Croydon area and does not appear in 1891 or 1901 Census.

Tracing her family back, there is a 21 SEP 1824 birth record that fits the dates: her father was Joseph Treacher and her mother "Maria".

Thomas Stutchbury was a lighterman who was born somewhere in central London and lived the latter part of his life in Penge, Surrey. He followed in his father James' footstep as he was apparently a bargemaster. He is listed as deceased as of his son William's wedding cert 27-Dec-1894 and appears to have died in 1885. He married Mary Treacher who appears to have died at the same time.
