Individual Note:
Based on 1851 Census, name and a couple of very circumstantial pieces of evidence, this Reuben Allison appears to be the father of Reuben Allison b 1847 elwick or Hart, Co. Durham.

Curiously, there seem to be two people a Reuben Allison and a Richard Allison who appear in different
records, never together and could be the same person (they are both butchers). For example, Catherine from Kidwelly is married in 1871 to Richard Allison and in 1891 to Reuben Allison. 2007 update: FreeBMD shows a Richard Reuben Allison marrying a Catherine Lloyd.

The most likely scenerio is this:

He is born to (a possibly Jewish?) father Eseph/Ralph Allison as Reuben/Richard Allison in Easiington where there is an Allison "clan". In 1846 he marries Mary Hutchinson and first son Reuben is born in 1847 either in Elwick or the nearby village of Hart. A daughter Sarah is also born there around 1850. Likely but not certainly, a third child Ralph John Hutchinson Allison is born there in 1853.

Then things get a little blurry. Most likely, son Ralph lives with an uncle and for some reason he becomes a butcher in Wales, an 1861 Kidwelly entry appears to show him (married but Margaret not present) and son Reuben. Mary perhaps dies not long after because in 1864 he marries a Welsh girl Catherine Lloyd. In 1871 he still a butcher in Wales but from 1881 on, he is back in Co. Durham as a Driller in 1881 and Screwing Machinist in 1891, still married to Catherine. He dies in 1896.

So this is a strange one. The 1891 census clearly shows her as married to Reuben Allison. Yet her she appears to be married to a Richard Allison of the same age. A mistake in the original transcription of the household to ennumeration index? The index image clearly says "Richard"

Sept 2005: Ah In the 1861 Census Richard Allison is living in Llannely with a son ... Reuben Allison. Married but wife not at home. Could Reuben and Richard be the same person??
