Studied music in US: New England Conservatory of Music - Chello, also played guitar and piano. Composed on piano.
Did not marry and had no children. Lived for many years of the last part of her life with fellow ladies Bing Tupas and Lila Savaedra. They had a small house in Camilia Homes next to BF Homes, Paranaque.

Developed a bus company to take children to and from Assumption School - a school for rich paying students, President Macapagal Arroyo, Imee Marcos and Senator Loren Legardo went there. It was hard work. Eventually a parent made some sort of complaint about the service, complained to other parents and the service folded. Ta paid for neice Ma. Louisa Primicias Angara to switch from St. Pauls to Assumption so that she would have someone studying there.

Drove a very large American car.

Smoked heavily and that's what carrried her away.

A charming, lively lady who did not suffer fools gladly.

Individual Note:
"Margaret A.", age 52, born Durham appears in the 1901 census as the (second) wife of the by then very aged Joseph Collinson. There are two children, Emily and Robert in household with them, I am assuming they are previous children of Margaret. It is possible that they never formally married.

Her surname was conjectural based on names of children from a possible earlier marriage but I've been in touch with a Graham descendent, Jeanette Heath, who confirms it and provided lots of other information about the Graham family.

The early marriage seems to be very clearly with William Archbold and can be tacked in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 Census. The clincher that we are not looking at another Margaret is that daughter Emily appears in 1891 and 1901 Census. Presumably William died about 1898 after son Robert was conceived.

Hello Michael Just thought I''d get in touch again and see if you''ve made any inroads into the Graham/Archbold/Collinson family.

I''ve been looking at my Ellis Island documents and found a Jenny Hall (aka Jane McIntyre Archbold)travelling with Esther Graham (wife of Robert Graham b 1879) to America in 1911. She gives her mother''s name as Mrs M Hall, 34 Belvedere Street, Heaton.

Someone checked the electoral rolls for that time and it was the home of John and Mary Ann Smeaton - Margaret''s son in law and daughter.

So it looks as if Margaret Ann Graham/Archbold/Collinson was alive at that time, but I don''t know why Margaret was going by that name, nor why Jenny was calling also calling herself Hall.

I also found that Jenny Archbold and her sister Ada travelled to Quebec in 1906 where her brother William was living at the time.

Let me know if you''ve any new information

Regards Jeanette Heath

Hi Michael

Margaret Ann Graham (Archbold, Collinson) was my great aunt. As well as her own 12 children she apparently looked after some of her younger brother George's children (my grandfather) - he seems to have scarpered after the death of his wife. My father John, his sister Margaret and his older brother Robert were all very close to the Archbolds. Of Margaret and William's children, William, Albert, Emily and Jane emigrated to the United States. Both Robert and Margaret Graham (my aunt and uncle) also went to America although Robert returned to England. My father came to Australia in 1912.

I have recently made contact with both Robert and Margaret's descendants in America. I found 3 first cousins still living. Douglas (86), Margaret Graham's son, remembers Emily and Jane Archbold well. He said Jane was a very colourful character, very outgoing and full of life. She married Ernest Steiger in New Jersey.

You can add another descendant to Margaret's family tree - Joseph Archbold, who was living with John and Mary Ann Smeaton on the 1901 census (he is brother in law to John, the head of the house.) Joseph was 7 at the time, so that makes his birth around 1894. I would expect that Joseph would have been named after your gg grandfather so perhaps the two families were friends for quite a long time. After William died Joseph and Margaret might have decided to marry.

Do you have a date for Margaret and Joseph's marriage or for their deaths? I couldn't read the dates on the chart for Joseph. Also could you give me the date of Elizabeth's death.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Jeanette [Heath]

Hello Mike

Thank you for all the information you sent. It was certainly very detailed. You have done a lot of work. I was looking at your information on Margaret Graham. I haven't got a birth certificate for her but I'm not sure that the Margaret born on 28th of May 1848 is the correct one, although it is just still possible. Margaret's father was Robert Graham, a master baker. But her mother was Jessie Buglass not a Janet. Is it possible that the name has been incorrectly transcibed? If it is definitely Janet, then I think it must be the wrong certificate. On all the early censuses Margaret does not have an Ann so I think that is something she tacked on around the time that she met William Archbold.

Here is the 1861 census entry

Robert Graham Head mar 40 baker born Gateshead (actually Newcastle)
Jessie Wife mar 36 born Berwick upon Tweed (not sure about that)
Robert son s 19 forgeman journeyman born Gateshead (actually Sunderland)
Margaret dau s 13 scholar born Gateshead
Thomas son s 11 scholar born Gateshead
George son s 5 scholar born Gateshead

Living: 14? William Street, Gateshead. (next number is 15 William Street)

It would be wonderful if someone had photos of Joseph Collinson and Margaret - it is very possible seeing as they lived to a fair age. Maybe someone back in Newcastle might have some. I guess it is a matter of finding more descendants.

I might order the LDS film for Margaret's baptism and see if it could possibly be the correct one before ordering. I'll also check the GRO indexes to see if there are any other likelies.

I am still looking for more Archbold connections. I haven't had much luck with the American ones. Both Emily and Jane were childless. There were quite a few of the family left in Newcastle - I know Gibson lived there around 1910 - 1920 as Robert Graham (one of the first cousins) remembers being pals with his children.

That's all for now. Please keep in touch.

Jeanette

Search for a Thomas Collinson marrying an Agnes in the Civil Index throws up only one potential match "Agnes McAmmond".

This seems a very rare surname - perhaps it is mispelt? A search of Scottish Clan names suggests Maccammond as the only possibility - but still not a single match in 1881 Census. Another source suggests: "The name was changed over the years from Mccammon, to McCammond, to McAmmond, to MacCammond (at least for the ones who returned to Scotland"
