Vaguely possible match but much earlier than birth of first known child (could be more who have left home?)

Written by William Cyril Ainsley (No.71), in Oct. 1990, and updated in italics by Mary Cecilia and Katy Smith (Nos.72 & 75), June 1999. WA refers to William Ainsley (No.70), William Cyril's father.

163. John William Ainsley

John was born 22 January 1856 and was five at the 1861 Census and 15 at the 1871 Census. He married Hannah Garbutt, 22, in 1880 he being 25. He was presumably the John, farmer at Cock Flatt according to Kelly's 1879 Directory, his father having no doubt died since the 1871 Census. At the 1881 Census John was "Head" at Cock Flatt aged 25, with his wife Hannah 22, and Alfred Ainsley aged 12, farm servant, see No.161. He was a witness in 1883, see No.167.

153. Stephen Ainsley

Stephen was born 27 October 1822 and married Hannah Hoggart (born 1825) on 19 August 1848. She died 25 March 1864 aged 36 and was buried at St. Hilda's. Stephen followed his father in farming Cock Flatt being there at the 1851 Census. At the 1861 Census he was there, 38, with his wife Hannah, 33, Martha aged 1, and other children. He was there at the 1871 census, but as a widower, with his daughter Ann as housekeeper, and Martha and other children - and an Alfred aged two described as "son" but being possibly the illegitimate son of Ann. Stephen died about 1878.

Curiously the 1881 death age better matches, but checking the 1881 England Census indicates this is another Stephen Ainslay born Bilsdale but married to an Elizabeth (unless he remarried?)
