Just a quickie to thank you for the wonderful information. I am still holding my breath just in case she isn't the correct Mary Ann, before I go too much into orbit There is that slight discrepancy about her age, 35 yrs. on the 1841 census, if she was born in 1797.
However on the 1861 census a Hannah Stutchbury aged 73 is living at 5, Catherine Street with the family of William John Rumfitt, parasol maker. I think he is her grandson. A Hannah Stutchbury's death is registered by a J. Rumfiit in 1867 aged 87. I think that was James Rumfitt, Wm's brother also in the umbrella trade, & the address 21 Albert Road, Mile End, was the same address given on a mortgage document as Wm. John's address. Perhaps one brother was staying in another brother's house. Hannah's husband was James Stutchbury, a sugar broker.
So presuming it is the same Hannah there is quite an age discepancy there too. These women would lie about their ages I do too
