Dear Michael

Was your James Halliwell married to Mary, with sons John (b 1861) and Robert (b 1870)?
Did he also have a brother, John, born about 1833 (my great great grandfather)?

Kind regards

Judith

Re - James Halliwell
Hello again,
I looked at your site but was unable to access Robert's details. My own Halliwell tree is a little confusing. I had him listed as Robert W in the 1871 census but by 1891 he is listed as Robert S.
I have Robert's brothers John & William taking their Mother's maiden name of Pickup, also found as Robert's Daughter-in-law's middle name. Her surname is Walmsley which corresponds with Robert's sister-in-law's maiden name (James' wife).
Perhaps I've got it all wrong and your tree is totally different. Let me know if you can find a connection between the Halliwell and In-law sides of the family?
Robert's son Charles (Charlie) was a Solicitor as, I understand, were his son and daughter. You're not one too, are you??
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Ruth [Shaw]

Hello there Michael,

I hope you and your family are keeping well and thought I would just update you on the latest news from the UK. regarding the Halliwells. I don't know where you live, but gather you are miles from here

I went over to Darwen with my son a couple of days ago, the first time I'd been for ages. The strangest thing happened I just had to get in touch to let you know.

Craig and I had enjoyed a packed lunch and decided to have a coffee in a local cafe. A few minutes later a man came and sat at the next table and while he was waiting for his meal to be served we struck up a conversation. I had no idea who he was but something he said in relation to the area of town he lived prompted me to ask if he knew Adela (Charles Halliwell's daughter whom I wrote to). Amazingly he said she was his wife Unfortunately she had died about eighteen months ago and as he was recovering from a stroke I didn't want to chat too long; not to mention his meal which by then was rapidly going cold I did establish that Adela's brother is still living locally and whilst he isn't in the best of health I hope to make contact with him on my next visit.

Since I last wrote to you I have learned that Charles had two brothers (Robert & Lesley) and I have been in touch with Robert's daughter. You and she are both the fifth generation from John Tweedie (b. 1824) and she & I are both the fifth generation from John Halliwell (1797).

Richard Hall is Robert's grandson (Robert Smalley's great-grandson) and you may like to contact him via the Genes Reunited site, membership number: 5339178. His mother doesn't tend to use the internet. I will let him have your Genes number and then hopefully you can both get in touch to find out about other distant relatives in your extended family.

That's all for now

Best regards, Ruth
